Use of Respectively in English

Respectively is an adverb which means in the same order as the items that you have just mentioned. In a way that relates or belongs to each of the separate people or things, you have just mentioned. (In the same order as the people or things already mentioned.)


Let's Understand This With An Example,

Instead of writing the sentence: The grade of Tom is 95 and the grade of John is 98.

You can write the above sentence in this way: The grades of Tom and John are 95 and 98 respectively.

1) James and Jonson are respectively 30 and 35 years old. [James is 30 years old and Jonson is 35 years old.]
